We all want a powerful laptop or desktop computer and once have it then want to check & confirm its processing speed to see whether does our machine actually has the same processing power which it was initially offering? This article will help you by sharing a method for how to check processor speed on Windows 10 and you will not be confused about this issue anymore.
Windows 10 is such an amazing and easy-to-use operating system that offers the easiest possible solution for its users and similarly, it lets you know how to check processor speed by following easy steps. Processor is the most crucial hardware which better performance can enhance the user’s productivity and overall experience.
Processor speed lets you know which software can run on your Laptop or PC and which program demands higher system requirements. Cores and Threads are also two major components that contribute to the powerful performances of processors.
Let’s allow us to share the method to check the processor speed on Windows 10 laptops.
How To Check Processor Speed On Windows 10 By 2 Ways
We can check processor speed in two different ways and both are easy to follow. This credit goes to the developers of Windows 10 who made such a user-friendly operating system that is full of convenience. These two ways are as follows.
- By Using Task Manager
- By Using PC Icon
Let’s discuss both methods with all details, one by one.
By Using Task Manager
This is the first and easiest method that helps you in checking your processor speed and overall laptop performance. Task Manager will take you where the user can see complete details in order to check how powerful the system is. The user needs to follow the below steps.
- Press and Hold these three keys in given sequence, Ctrl + Shift + Esc to launch the task manager.
- Once you use combination of these keys, the screen will be appearing like this.
- Go to the performance menu where you can see the actual processing speed of your laptop and how much currently being utilized to run the system.
Below is the picture sharing my CPU processing speed which shares total and current CPU utilization.
This feature is not limited to Windows 10 and can also check the processor speed and overall system performance on Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. These two methods are perfectly applicable on older versions of Windows.
Checking From “This PC” Icon
This is the second method to check the complete laptop specifications and processor speed including how much total RAM is installed on the system, Processor model and Its number of Cores, power in GHz, operating system, and others. This is very critical information about the system and the buyer needs to check before buying it. You can use this method by following below steps.
- Hover the mouse cursor over This PC icon and perform right click on it.
- Then, click on Properties option.
It will open the new window after clicking the Properties option, It will provide you complete details about your system such as details of processor including Cores and GHz information, system type, operating system, installed RAM and others. This information is also used when a buyer wants to buy a new laptop and check the all specifications by performing this method.
You can take visual help from the below two images that follow this same method.
How To Check Processor Speed in CMD ?
Many people believe more in command prompt for checking laptop specifications and use it instead of methods mentioned above. They want to apply some manual efforts and type specific commands to get the required information such as processor details, maximum clock speed and current clock speed. To check processor speed in CMD, they use type following commands and follow below steps.
- Launch the Command Prompt on your laptop.
- Type these commands, wmic CPU get name, maxclockspeed, currentclockspeed. This command will appear all the information on laptop screen which names are also used in command and can check in below picture.
How Can We Check the Generation of Processor On Windows 10 ?
The performance of Processor has been improving from one generation to next generation and has become more efficient ever. One who wants to know which generation of processor is built-in laptop can find this information by taking below steps.
- Perform the right-click on This PC icon and then click the Properties option.
- You need to find the thousand figure given in the Processor heading if it starts from 2 which means you have 2nd generation processor, if it starts from 9 then it means having 9th generation processor. Let’s take a look at below picture which shows 2nd generation processor information.
Every next generation processor offers better performance and proved as more efficient comparing to older generations. This CMD method was popular to check processor speed fifteen to twenty years ago.
How Can We Find Out Our Processor Model On Windows 10 ?
User can also find out own processor model by applying the above method and it will show you the complete information about your processor required on Windows 10. Moreover, it also confirms you whether having Intel or AMD processor as it is mentioned after the big sized CPU tag. It protects you from any fraudulent deal.
How Can We Check CPU Temperature on Windows 10 ?
There are several third-party applications available which can let you check your CPU’s temperature and will help you in maintaining the normal temperature by closing down unproductive applications. It is better not to use those third-party applications which may also damage your system and affects CPU performances.
However, you are advised to go to the laptop’s Bios where can actually check the temperature of laptop and accordingly take corrective actions. Overheating issues affects the processor performance and also damages the hardware.
How To Check Processor’s Number of Cores On Windows 10 ?
The method we mentioned earlier which is used for checking the model and generation of processor, on the same screen user can see the number of cores attached with processor which improves its performance.
How To Check CPU’s Utilization On Windows 10 ?
CPU utilization may be defined as computer’s usage of processing resources or what percentage of processor is occupied by the user. User can run multiple apps simultaneously and then check the CPU utilization in order to evaluate the performance of processor.
The method mentioned in the above, can also be used for checking the CPU utilization as it shows on the same Window where other information is also being shared such as number of cores, base speed in GHz, generation of processor and others.
How To Check How Much RAM is Being Utilized ?
User needs to press and hold Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager Window and then select the Performance tab. There will be four main heads and one of the heads is “Memory” which is showing how much RAM is being utilized currently.
We shared with you two methods to check the processor speed on Windows 10 and analyze the performance. These are the two easiest methods which do not require technical skill to perform and rather a basic user can also check the processor speed by one of these two methods.
It does not only show the data about speed but user can also see other types of data such as CPU utilization, speed in GHz, number of cores attached with processor and how much amount of RAM is occupied.
Processor performance is not just about clock speed in GHz, but it also includes how many cores and threads, its generation-old or latest, its current temperature. All these factors affect its overall performance and the above-shared methods help you in evaluating all this.
